Bury Tomorrow - EARTHBOUND Single Review

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, BURY TOMORROW ARE BACK!

To my friends, it is no secret that I am a huge Bury Tomorrow fan, so when they tweeted the date November the first, my mind went into overtime, an announcement? A release date of a new single or album? I could not wait to see what the day would bring, and low and behold, Bury Tomorrow have announced their sixth album, Earthbound, and its release date, which is January 29th, 2016. On top of this, they premiered the titular track from the album on the Radio 1 Rock Show, and its fucking awesome (and how could it not be? The single artwork has a fucking eagle on it!).

Ever since I first heard the band, I was struck with their ability to seemingly effortlessly blend the extreme elements of Metalcore, with beautifully melodic sections without losing power or making the song 'less heavy', and Earthbound is no exception.

An up tempo track, it pulls no punches from the opening, immediately hitting hard with powerful drums and rhythm guitar, while new member Kristan Dawson's lead guitar plays a brilliant, yet light lead guitar piece over the intro. Hearing the song for the first time sort of reminded me of fellow British band Asking Alexandria's 'If You Can't Ride Two Horses At Once... You Should Get Out Of The Circus' in the way its rhythm guitar is laid out in the introduction.

One of my favourite parts of this song is the verse. Dan Winter-Bates' gut wrenching growls are as strong as they've ever been, delivering line after line without losing any aggression, yet with clarity for each word, which is unusual for the style of vocals, yet adds even more to the songs appeal.

The weakest part of the song is its chorus. The song looses some momentum when it gets to the chorus. Thats not to say its bad, it is good, the song deserves a mad chorus, but the one it has left me yearning for more. The second verse and chorus are very similar to their original counterparts, with some nice layered screams in the verse giving it a fresh feel. But then...

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Stop whatever you are doing. Put down your iPhone, tell your dad to shut up, because when you hear 'desolation of all we know', you are about to lose your shit. I honestly wasn't expecting this song to have a breakdown in it, and the look on my face when it began was priceless. Chugging guitars, brilliant double kick work and a brilliant solo over the top makes this a breakdown that even your NAN will love. And yes, that's a promise.

IN SUMMARY
Is this Bury Tomorrow's best ever song? No. Is it their heaviest? No, not by a long shot. But do you know what it is? Its a sign from the Gods of Music that even when a band gets bigger, they can still be heavy as shit and not become some wanna-be the 1975 cover band but with heavy guitars (yes Bring Me the Horizon, I'm looking at you). Its another heavy, all guns blazing, brilliant track from a band who are on top of their game and do not look like falling off anytime soon.
